Javier Ramírez Limón


Javier Ramírez Limón studied photography in Mexico City at Escuela Activa de Fotografia and in New York at International Center of Photography.


He has shown his work in several exhibitions and festivals and has given different workshops and lectures. From 1998 to 2002 he was in charge of the department of education of the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City, where he created two studies programs: Documentary photography and Photography and other media.


In 2000 he was awarded with the MEX-USA grant to develop a project on photography teaching with the children of the border town of Quitovac (Northwestern Mexico). In 2002 he won the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte fellowship.


He participated in Fotofest, Houston,Texas and Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografia, Buenos Aires, Argentina. His exhibitions include: VII, X, and XII Bienales de Fotografia, Muestra Latinoamericana de Fotografia, Mexico City, Fluss, Vienna, In this place, New York, Sisik, Tecate, Viva Mexico, Warsaw, and Laberinto de Miradas, a gathering of Spanish and Latin American Documentary Photographers, Mexico City.


He has published his work in magazines and books as Luna cornea, Revista M, Gatopardo, Picnic, Horizons, Replicante, etcetera.


Javier is responsible for curatorial project around photography in Tijuana that was presented at Centro Cultural Tijuana and Centro de la Imagen.


Currently, he is finishing a personal project about migration as part of the CIRCA series to be exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, in La Jolla, CA. He is also working on a documentary project about the practice of baseball in the Liga Norte de Sonora, northwestern Mexico.
